Following the recovery of hundreds of National Identity cards, driving permits, and car number plates during an operation in the Lubigi swamp last week, Viola, a guest host of The Fatboy Show opined that the scenario could be linked to a business of selling these documents for money.
In an operation last Wednesday to evict people from Lubigi swamp, security operatives discovered sacks and basins full of national IDs and driving permits under the bed in one of the couple's house and car number plates hidden on their housetop.
“Usually, people steal documents and call you asking for a certain amount of money in case you need them.” She narrated about having had a similar experience where her car number plate was stolen, and the Bulgars asked for money,” said Viola.
“It is a job that some people are doing currently,” she added. Her co-host Fatboy inferred that the couple might have a link with some people in the National Identity and Registration Authority (NIRA) who aided in the illegal processing and acquisition of the IDs.
“There could be some collusion between those people and NIRA. They could have found ways of producing and selling the cards to whoever is interested in criminal activities,” he supposed.
Giving his perspective, Pius, a contributor to the show believed there was a much deeper revelation away from what the suspected robbers claimed that the documents were picked.
The items were recovered from Akim Terwane and his wife Rahuma Nayembale. Currently, NIRA and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) are intensifying investigations into the matter as the suspects remain arrested at the Lubigi police post.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
