People marry for love, and commitment, to start a family, and to upgrade their social status among other things.
However, the increasing divorce rates and experiences of married friends and loved ones are making a lot of people think hard about getting married, often opting to stay single.
Even though many are shying away from the lifelong commitment, some are still open to the idea of marriage, reciting the vows, and becoming one with their significant others.
Today on The Fatboy Show, Sarah Apollo, a presenter of the show, had alternative views as to why specifically men get married.
“I think a lot of men marry because they want someone to pick after them. Because most men’s reasons for marrying are; ‘she must know how to cook, clean, wash, how did your mothers raise you? She told Daniel Omara, her co-host. “You just want someone to pick after you,” she said.
Daniel, as opposed to her opinion, said men could just employ house helps if that's all a wife could give. He believed that men look for those qualities in women because it's the way they feel loved and cared for.
“It's like a woman saying she would like to have a man with a certain level of financial status, or has to respect and treat her like a queen, or one to defend her in a break of a fight. Just like women, we also expect something in return.
He also said men marry for stability because it makes them committed if there’s an established agreement.
“A lot of men make a promise or a gentleman’s agreement (in cohabiting relationships) but will break that vow. The only way to contain us in a serious relationship is if we are married to you because if it's less than that we are not committed to it,”
He further said many men can be loyal in marriages unlike when they are non-committed hence marrying for stability, having children, and being responsible to a family.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
