Before embarking on a serious or long-term relationship, there are important questions that both parties need to ask each other before pushing the relationship to the next level.
Although the questions may vary, most notable tend to be about love languages, expectations, religion, professions, and also questions to do with a person’s ex.
Olive Najjuma, a host of the Fatboy show said one of the five things to ask her dating partner would be whether he is over his ex.
“For a woman my age, It means I’ll be dating men of a certain age. So if he’s 45 and above, my first question would be; ‘are you over your ex.?’ Because for a man 45 plus, there will be an ex. So I’ll need to know if they were married, is he divorced? And if you are divorced, are you over the mother of your children or ex-wife?” she posed.
She added that her second question would be about what her dating partner does for a living. “I don’t want to date a man that is just figuring out himself,” she said.
James onen aka Fatboy wondered whether most past relationships do not leave some residual pain that sometimes people hold onto even as they get into new relationships.
“Women are luckier because their emotional scars tend not to run as deep as men’s. You could meet a lady who had a terrible breakup and an ordeal that you wouldn’t imagine her in another relationship any soon. But before you know it, three months down she is celebrating her new boyfriend. So, she ends up in love with the new guy as almost as she was with the one before,” said Fatboy.
Nevertheless, Olive supposed it is a case-by-case scenario where some people might get over their exes faster than others. She added that every breakup withdraws something from someone. Even though they might be deeply in love with their new partner, it's always not the same as with their exes.
Meanwhile, a contributor to the show, only identified as Sherry said she would inquire from a dating partner whether he is still in communication with his ex depending on the nature of the relationship, they had.
“I’d also ask about religion because am quite a religious person, their health, mental, physical, and their expectations,” she said.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
