When considering a relationship partner, some people prefer someone with opposite traits, while others are comfortable having someone with a character similar to theirs.
Today on the Fatboy Show, while discussing whether or not couples should have opposite behavioral traits rather than similar ones, James Onen, the RX Radio presenter, said that he prefers someone with a personality like his.
“Well, I prefer having a person that is exactly like me. Of course, it is not easy to find someone exactly like me, because I am a bit weird, as you know… I have my weird ways,” he told his co-host Olive Najjuma, who conceded with the explanation.
She, on the other side, had mixed feelings about dating based on different or similar character traits.
I would like someone like me to a degree but also different to a degree. Because if we are 100 percent the same (I am a melancholic). If the other person is like that, I think to a point it gets boring. So you need to have a few differences here and there, and I think that makes you and the other person unique.
James Onen aka Fatboy, however, reasoned that the challenge with people dating opposite personalities is one trying to change the other to match their traits, which defeats the purpose of dating an opposite persona. He argued that this is most common with women.
“But that is wrong. You can't get into a relationship with the idea of changing people,” replied Olive.
“We can't even say one gender because both men and women try to do these things. If you liked the person when you just met them, why try to change them? They should just compliment you,” she insisted.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
